Lattice elements have high strength and are capable of withstanding a load of 60–80 kg (and the most powerful products - up to 300 kg), but a large layer of snow can tear off the snow retainer along with the cornice and drain. To strengthen the fastening of the lattice snow holders, they can be fixed not to the roofing material, but to the roof rafter system. If your region does not have a lot of snowfall, then you should choose just such products. They have excellent decorative qualities and help to implement different design solutions.

  3. Network. This is one of the varieties of lattice elements, but they have their own characteristics. The territory is protected from snow melting by a net, which is fixed on a metal frame.   • pipe with a diameter of 10-15 mm;
  • suspended supports;
  • welding machine;
  • hacksaw for metal or grinder;
  • building level.

  1. First, they make a sketch of the future structure.
  2. All the necessary blanks are cut to size, laid out in a given sequence and the correct cutting is checked using the building level.
  3. A frame is welded from the corners and reinforced with vertical cross-pieces made of pipes, the distance between which is 40-50 mm.

Hanging poles are best purchased at a store. They are mounted on the roof first, and the manufactured gratings are attached to them.

Making snow stops

Compared to lattice elements, hooks are much easier to make. To do this, you need to prepare:

  • sheet stainless steel;
  • bending machine or powerful pliers;
  • scissors for metal;
  • electric drill.

The works are carried out in the following sequence.

  1. On the steel sheet, markings are made and strips of the required length are cut.
  2. Using a listogib or pliers, the strip is bent so that its end takes the shape of a triangle.

  • pipes with a diameter of 10-15 mm;
  • metal corners with a shelf width of 30–40 mm;
  • suspended supports;
  • welding machine;
  • hacksaw for metal or grinder;
  • building level.

  1. First, the side plates are triangular in shape.
  2. Holes are drilled in them that coincide in diameter with the outer size of the pipes.

Installation on corrugated board

One of the most budgetary roofing materials is corrugated board. It has almost the same characteristics as metal tiles, but has a less attractive appearance. The profiled sheet has a smooth surface and a protective coating. On it, snow guards are installed not only to ensure safety, but also to preserve the front surface. The ice that forms under the snow layer can scratch the top layer of the roofing material, which will significantly reduce its lifespan.

Galvanized structures are sold as a set, while copper structures are sold individually. Tubes, top, bottom bracket can be purchased separately. Although the cost of copper elements is higher, they fit perfectly into the design of the seam roof and have a significantly longer service life.

For cement-sand tiles

On roofs covered with natural tiles, lattice snow protectors are usually installed. The gratings are mounted close to the roof edge and securely fixed to the roof. To dissect and delay snow, they are most often installed along the entire perimeter of the roof, but they can be mounted only in places of greatest danger.

For a three-meter lattice structure, there should be four supports. If there are fewer of them, then it is better not to buy such products.

The peculiarity of installation on ceramic or cement-sand tiles is that the snow retainers are fixed not to the roofing material, but to the lathing.

  1. If the installation is carried out already on the laid surface, it is necessary to remove the row of tiles, in front of which the snow guards will be installed.
  2. The lathing is reinforced with wooden beams.
  3. Special fasteners are fixed with self-tapping screws.

    To fix the snow guards on the tiles, special fasteners are used so as not to damage the roofing material.

  4. The shingles fit into place.

To provide the necessary protection, it is sufficient to install one row of snow guards around the perimeter of the roof and to the chimney, if any.

Calculation algorithm:

  • Give an adequate estimate of the length of the roof overhang. This is necessary to determine the total length of the installed snow guards. The best option should be considered the entire perimeter of the roof adjacent to the wall. In the presence of a chimney, the abutment to the pipe is also taken into account.
  • Determine the angle of inclination of the metal tile, as well as the length of the slope. A goniometer will come in handy.
  • Identify in which snowy area the site is located. To create the marks, the bracket is placed on the shingles so that the upper part rests against the previous row of the roofing surface.

The entire load during marking should be taken by the battens of the sheathing located under the layer of metal tile. A 7 mm thick waterproofing gasket is placed in the upper groove, while a 14 mm thick gasket is placed in the lower groove. Fixing the corner to the surface of the tile is carried out thanks to self-tapping screws. The main pressure will be concentrated on the upper edge, so self-tapping screws up to 70 mm long will be required to secure it. This size allows you to securely fix the structural element, reaching the wooden lathing under the tiles. The lower edge should be secured with shorter self-tapping screws.

Final touches

Snow cutters should be fastened and snow barriers should be installed using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver. It is important to remember that the sheets of metal tiles are not strong enough to hold the structure under heavy load. In places of fastenings, where even long self-tapping screws do not reach the wooden crate, for the greatest fixation, wooden blocks are placed on the crate. The latter compensate for the difference in height between the layers of metal tiles.

At the end of the work, it is recommended to cover both types of snow holders with an anti-corrosion agent and powder paint. This is necessary not only to protect the structure, but also for the aesthetic appearance of the product over a long service life.
