About an exotic variety of tomatoes Black pineapple

The world of tomatoes is amazing and diverse. There is room for varieties that are grown not so much for physical needs as for the soul. If a gardener wants to get not only tasty, but also unusually beautiful tomatoes to surprise family and friends, then Black Pineapple will be just a godsend for him. Let's take a closer look at this exotic tomato and find out if it is difficult to grow it in your greenhouse.

The history of growing tomato varieties Black pineapple

This tomato is not in the State Register of Russia, as well as most of the other 567 varieties of exotic tomatoes from the collection of Valery Dmitrievich Popenko (Altai Territory). This collection, which the enthusiast has been collecting for more than ten years, contains rare tomatoes from all over the world. Black Pineaple is a Belgian dark fruit hybrid indoor cultivar. The author is an amateur gardener Pascal Moreau. Some amateurs bought seeds from Popenko (they also managed to find them in the Happy Garden online store and from other collectors) and grew them in their greenhouses (and sometimes in the open field). Their reviews (they are presented below) are mostly positive.

Description and characteristics of the variety

The plant is indeterminate (not limited in growth), its height reaches 1.7 meters, strongly branched. Inflorescences are formed from the lowest branches and at intervals of 1-2 leaves to the very top. In each of them, 5-7 fruits are tied, which begin to ripen 85-95 days after full shoots appear. According to the sources, up to 10-12 kg of harvest is harvested from each bush.

The fruits of the Black Pineapple are very large (up to 0.5-1 kg), flat-round, often irregular in shape. Their coloration is rather unusual - it is a combination of dark red, pink, yellow, purple and green colors. The flesh on the cut also looks unusual - it is mostly green with pink veins, but there are red and yellow blotches. Moreover, each fruit has its own unique coloring. Tomatoes, cut in cross slices, will become a decoration of any table.

But these unusual tomatoes are planted not only for their decorative qualities - their pulp has an exquisite sweet taste without sourness with citrus notes. The fruits are used only for fresh consumption and the preparation of vegetable salads. They are not suitable for canning, but they can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time.

Growing varieties of tomatoes Black pineapple

Despite the unusualness of this tomato, its agricultural technology is quite simple and does not differ in any way from other, familiar varieties. Therefore, we will briefly dwell only on the important points to which attention should be paid.

Landing

For planting in an unheated film or polycarbonate greenhouse, you need to grow seedlings 60 days old. Since the seeds of this variety are quite rare and relatively expensive, the seedless method is usually not used. Provided that it is planted in the closed ground of the middle lane in the second half of April, it is worth starting sowing seeds already in the first half of February, given that it will take some more time for their germination.

The planting scheme should be such that the bushes are well lit and not thickened. It is better to allocate one row for this variety along the southern side of the greenhouse, placing plants on it with an interval of 50 cm. Since the shoots will have to be tied up, then even before planting it is worth worrying about the construction of suitable supports, which can be trellises or crossbars with hanging cords.

Care

After the transplanted seedlings take root and get stronger, they begin the main stages of care.

Watering and air humidity

There is nothing unusual about them - everything is as usual. Begin watering 3-4 weeks after planting tomatoes in the ground. The only subtlety is not to overdo it. Excess moisture in the case of Black Pineapple, according to gardeners, leads to the fact that the taste of its fruits becomes sour. Therefore, they need to be watered abundantly, but rarely. An interval of 1-2 weeks will be optimal. And, of course, do not forget about mulching, which helps to retain moisture and reduce the need for loosening. It is also important to maintain constant humidity in the greenhouse at a level of 65-70% (it can be controlled with a hygrometer), since plants of this variety react negatively to non-compliance with this parameter. If it is exceeded, the risk of fungal diseases increases (to which the variety is quite resistant), and at low values, pollen dries up.

Watering tomatoes in a greenhouse should be abundant, but rarely

Top dressing

Large-fruited and high-yielding varieties consume a significant amount of nutrients from the soil. Therefore, at the same time as the start of watering, they begin regular feeding. They are carried out at intervals of 2-3 weeks, alternating nitrogen with phosphorus-potassium. Proponents of organic farming prefer to use liquid infusions of fresh grass, mullein or chicken droppings as the former, and for the latter they use an infusion of wood ash. But you can also use ordinary mineral fertilizers: urea or ammonium nitrate (20-30 g / m2) and potassium monophosphate (10-20 g / m2). Before use, they should be dissolved in water and applied simultaneously with watering.

Shaping, pinning, garter

Some gardeners recommend forming the Black Prince tomato bushes into three stems (but one or two can be used). To do this, leave two stepsons growing from the axils of the lower leaves (it is better to take from the 3rd and 4th, and remove the 1st and 2nd). Then these stems are tied up in the usual way, and the stepsons are regularly pinched (about 1 time per week). In the case of a heavy load on the bushes, pinch the tops at a height of 1.2-1.5 m.

Harvesting and storage

Gardeners who have planted this tomato for the first time often cannot determine the moment when the fruits are fully ripe. They say that outwardly tomatoes look immature, and later it turns out to be their normal color. Therefore, it is worth trying to cut one of the fruits and, after making sure of its ripeness, pluck others. In the future, determining the degree of maturity will not cause difficulties. It was not possible to find information about the ability of the fruits to ripen, so it is better to collect fully ripe tomatoes. Moreover, at this stage they are stored in the refrigerator for a long time. Due to their good transportability and keeping quality, surplus of these tomatoes can be sold on the markets.

Reviews of gardeners

Tomato Black pineapple is distinguished by exceptional decorativeness. Its cultivation brings true aesthetic pleasure. The fruits of this variety add variety to the table setting and cause sincere admiration of the guests.

Mid-season, tall, exotic variety for greenhouses and open ground. The period from germination to maturation is 115-125 days.

The bush is of an indeterminate type, requiring a garter to a support and pinning. We recommend forming the plant into 1 or 2 stems. If you leave more trunks, the tomatoes will be smaller and the harvest will be later. When forming a bush in 1 stem, stepchildren are removed without exception, and in 2 stems - one is left growing under the first flower brush.

The leaf of a tomato is medium in size, green in color. The inflorescence is of a simple and intermediate type. The first inflorescence is laid over 7-9 leaves, the next ones - every 3 leaves.

The main qualities of fruits, yield

Fruits are rounded, burgundy-brown at maturity, weighing 150-300 grams, excellent tomato flavor. They are not prone to cracking, but they do not store well. There are many seeds in the fruit. These tomatoes are of universal use - suitable for fresh consumption, salads, as well as for processing into juices, sauces.

This variety is grown for its beautiful and tasty fruit, not its yield. Disease resistance of tomato is above average.

Tomato variety Black Prince included in the State Register in the Russian Federation for growing in open ground and under film shelters.

Origin and development of black varieties

The first black tomatoes were obtained by domestic scientists back in the 50s of the last century. Red Solanaceae and wild varieties were crossed to obtain the shade.

Photo of black tomatoes

Now new "black" tomatoes appear every year. However, until now, the presence of such a variety causes surprise and genuine delight among many.

Features of the variety

Kumato tomatoes are distinguished by an unusual dark shade of fruit, not characteristic of many other tomato hybrids. This culture has a specific growth rate: the seeds of this hybrid germinate rather quickly, but then the seedlings slow down their development. The fruits of this type of tomato are even, of the same shape, of the same size. If agricultural technology is violated, tomatoes may have an irregular shape and different sizes.

Country of origin, regions of cultivation

The kumato variety was bred by the Syngenta breeder Luis Ortego and took about 40 years to develop. It was obtained by crossing wild tomatoes from the Galapagos Islands with a domesticated crop. The breeder added blackberry pigment to obtain a darker fruit shade. The variety was not included in the State Register, although it became widespread among gardeners and farmers in Russia. Read about the orange tomato variety here.

The official name of this variety is Olmeca F1. However, in most countries it is known under the brand name "Kumato"

In greenhouses, this variety, like Mushroom Lukoshko, Agata, Valentina, can be grown throughout the territory of the Russian Federation. The southern regions of Russia are most favorable for growing crops.

Advantages and disadvantages

The kumato variety has many advantages over other tomato hybrids. Among them:

  • high taste
  • heat resistance
  • high content of vitamins A and C in fruits of the kumato variety
  • resistance to various diseases and pests affecting tomatoes of other varieties
  • rapid seed germination
  • high productivity.

It should also be noted that such tomatoes tolerate transportation well. They can be transported for sale to another city and even to another region.

It should be noted that tomatoes of this variety do not lose their taste during heat treatment. They retain their beneficial properties and high concentration of vitamins even after baking, boiling or frying.

The disadvantages of the presented culture include its specific color, which not all consumers like.

Features of growing in the open field

Planted seedlings or seed-grown tomatoes need good conditions and care. The most favorable temperature for the formation and ripening of fruits is 28 ° C. But if we are unable to influence the temperature regime, then we must provide proper care.

Watering and feeding

Tomatoes Black Prince are hygrophilous. This is due to the large size of the plant and its large size. The soil under the bush should not be too dry. Therefore, water it regularly. A good moisturizing method is the drip system. Thanks to this method, the water gets strictly under the root, and the leaves and stem remain dry. Seedlings need more frequent watering, because their root system is only reclaiming the soil and is not able to satisfy the tomato's need for moisture.

Choose morning or evening hours for watering. At this time, the sun is not so bright, and if water accidentally falls on the leaves, a burn will not happen.

Despite the Black Prince's love for watering, it is impossible to overmoisten the soil. If tomatoes are grown in too moist soil, they will ache, and ripening fruits will become watery and cracked. When scheduling watering, it is imperative to take into account precipitation and soil type.

If there is no drip system, then you can dig irrigation grooves along the bed

When growing the Black Prince, you can't do without fertilizers. Top dressing is applied every 2 weeks, and you need to alternate root with foliar. From organic matter, tomatoes prefer humus and slurry. Fertilizers with a balanced composition are used as a mineral top dressing:

  • Emerald
  • Ideal
  • Humat-wagon
  • Humate + 7
  • Fortica wagon.

Foliar dressing is carried out only in the evening. The solution for it is prepared less concentrated than for fertilization in the usual way.

Humate will help reduce soil acidity and have a positive effect on tomato growth.

Garter and shaping

The tallness of the Black Prince suggests that you cannot do without a garter. It is especially important to tie up fruit brushes, on which rather big tomatoes ripen. If this is not done in time, the hand will simply break under the weight of the fruit.

  • the plant is formed into 1 trunk on an individual support with the removal of the lower leaves and all stepchildren. Stepsons do not need to break out, but carefully cut off with a sharply sharpened knife with a small blade
  • to increase the mass of fruits, the number of ovaries in the hand is normalized
  • at the end of the growing season, the growth point must be pinched, otherwise the set fruits will not have time to ripen.

The black prince in the greenhouse and in the open field is formed in different ways

Description of early ripe tomatoes Moment and growing seedlings on your own

Tomato Moment belongs to the group of tomatoes that ripen early. Due to the fact that the skin of a tomato of the described variety is resistant to mechanical damage, the fruits can be transported over long distances. Trade organizations are willing to buy Moment tomatoes from farmers, as they can be stored in a cold room for 45 to 60 days.

The characteristics and description of the variety are as follows:

  1. The growing season of the plant from the first shoots to harvest is 88-96 days.
  2. The height of the bush at Moment ranges from 0.25 to 0.4 m.
  3. The inflorescence is of a simple type.
  4. Average number of standard green leaves on the stem.
  5. The fruits look like a sphere flattened at the bottom and top. Their mass ranges from 60 to 80 g. They are painted red.
  6. The pulp tastes good. The fruits are of medium density consistency.

The reviews of that part of the gardeners who planted the Moment in their plots show that in order to get a good harvest, all the recommendations of specialists must be fully followed. The yield of tomatoes of the described variety when grown in open fields is up to 1.0 kg per bush. For tomatoes grown in greenhouses, the yield of fruits rises to 1.2-1.4 kg from each bush.

Those farmers who planted a tomato for the purpose of marketing indicate that they managed to harvest from 4500 to 4700 g from each 1 m² of the garden.

Gardeners distinguish such advantages of the variety as stability of the crop, unpretentiousness to weather conditions and quality of care, the ability not to form a bush, almost the same size of fruits.

The disadvantages of the Moment are considered a small yield from one bush, susceptibility to various diseases of nightshade crops. Tomato does not get sick only with late blight, since it manages to give a crop earlier than the season for the spread of the disease begins.

Moment is grown in open areas in the southern regions of Russia. In the vastness of the middle lane, the tomato grows in film greenhouses and greenhouses. In the northern regions of the country, Moment is bred in greenhouse complexes with good heating.

After purchasing the seeds, they are treated in a solution of potassium permanganate or aloe juice. This measure will increase the germination of the seed fund, strengthen the immunity of future plants. Seeds are sown in boxes with soil mixed with peat and sand. The seeds are buried 20 mm into the soil.

The first shoots will appear in a week. They must be watered with warm water, fed with organic (manure) or mineral (nitrogen) fertilizers. After the development of 1-2 leaves on the seedlings, they dive. For transplantation to a permanent habitat, the seedlings must be 50-60 days old. About a week before the transfer of the bushes to the greenhouse or to the open ground, the seedlings are hardened.

If a decision is made to plant a tomato in the open field, then this is done after the threat of sudden frosts has disappeared. The exact date of planting seedlings in the soil depends on the climatic conditions of the region, so the gardener must determine the right moment based on his personal experience.

Due to the small growth of plants, they do not need to eliminate stepchildren. Experienced vegetable growers advise planting 5 to 7 seedlings on a garden bed with an area of 1.m².

To obtain a normal harvest, it is recommended to weed the beds from weeds 1-2 times a week. This will help to avoid the appearance of fungal and bacteriological infections.

Hilling the soil helps to eliminate the threat of damage to the tomato root system by parasitic garden insects and their larvae. Together with hilling, it is recommended to apply ash flour under the roots of the bushes. She kills parasites, scares away slugs.

Watering is carried out 2 times a week. The procedure is carried out with warm water, set in the sun. In hot weather, increase the frequency of watering as needed.

Top dressing of bushes is carried out 3-4 times per season. First, nitrogen fertilizers and organic mixtures (humus or manure) are introduced into the soil. This promotes rapid plant growth. After the beginning of flowering, tomato bushes are fed with nitrogen and potassium mixtures. When fruits begin to appear, phosphorus and potassium mixtures are introduced into the soil in the beds.

To eliminate the danger of developing diseases, it is necessary to treat the leaves of plants with medicinal chemicals that will destroy fungi and microorganisms that are dangerous to tomato bushes.

When various garden pests appear, for example, Colorado potato beetles, aphids, insect caterpillars, it is recommended to use poisonous chemicals for plant protection, which can be purchased in specialized stores.

Characteristics

The pearl red tomato variety has good cold resistance and shade tolerance. It perfectly tolerates prolonged cold snaps without compromising the development of fruits and plants as a whole. Can grow in shaded areas such as balconies or verandas. In this case, the plant does not stretch, and its stem does not become thinner.

Like most tomatoes, the bush of the Red Pearl variety dies even at slight negative temperatures. Therefore, it requires temporary shelter when grown in the open field and timely transfer to the room when cultivated on balconies and verandas .. Due to the small size of both the plant and the fruits in particular, it does not require careful watering

In the absence of such, it can develop and bear fruit for only about one and a half weeks.

Due to the small size of both the plant and the fruit in particular, it does not require careful watering. In the absence of such, it can develop and bear fruit for only about one and a half weeks.

Tomato Pearl red belongs to the early maturing varieties. Fruit ripening occurs 80-90 days after germination. The first tomatoes in technical maturity can be obtained in mid-June. The fruiting period is extended over time. Under favorable conditions, the tomato can bear fruit until mid-September.

It should be noted that the yield of tomato Pearl red is higher than average compared to similar varieties. From one square meter, you can learn up to 5 kilograms of cherry.

Despite the unpretentiousness of the Pearl red tomatoes, the yield is positively influenced by:

  • growing in well-lit areas
  • planting in areas with loose and fertile soils
  • the device of supports, since up to 20 fruits can form on one branch.

Unfortunately, according to many vegetable growers, the pearl red tomato does not tolerate long-term storage and transportation. Its thin skin does not allow it to maintain its attractive appearance for a long time.

The tomato of this variety is almost universal in use. Its high palatability allows it to be used for making salads. Beautiful fruits of bright red color will serve as a wonderful decoration for any dish.

Tomato variety Pearl red is excellent for canning. Sweet cherry blossoms will delight you in the long winter. The low solids content makes the tomato suitable for making fresh juices.

"Pros and cons"

The pearl red tomato variety was bred specifically for obtaining cherry tomatoes in personal subsidiary plots and for personal consumption. It is worth noting that the variety does an excellent job with these tasks.

  • Possesses high yields with short ripening periods.
  • Compact, undersized plants, not prone to pinching, do not take up much space.
  • The variety is versatile in cultivation. Open ground, greenhouses, balconies and window sills - everywhere it shows good results.
  • It belongs to cold-resistant and drought-resistant varieties and has a high immunity to diseases.
  • The fruits of the pearl red tomato have an attractive appearance.

Among the shortcomings, some gardeners note the poor keeping quality of fruits and the inability to transport them over long distances.
